Aliya Dung Paper

After spending 4 months working at an elephant sanctuary in Sri Lanka Kara wanted a way to continue helping the elephants from back in Canada. After many meetings with a paper factory next door she learned that no one was selling their products in Canada. And thus, Aliya Dung Paper was born! All products are handmade in Sri Lanka out of elephant dung and recycled paper, and Kara helped with collecting the dung, sanitizing it, and turning it into paper. The final artwork and creation is done by local Sri Lankan artists and the whole factory follows the Fair Trade Principles (something that was extremely important to Kara). The process is chlorine and bleach free, and all dyes and binding agents consist entirely of organic vegetable products. Since Aliya started with the elephants in mind, 10% of all proceeds are donated back to help improve the lives of elephants in Sri Lanka. Kara has been back to visit the elephants in Sri Lanka on 4 separate occasions, and donations have helped build a free roaming area, cover food costs, and paid for an elephant's knee surgery. It has been extremely rewarding for her to see what changes have been made thanks to the sales of these products!

Whimsical Windows and Words

Born to wonder, the Creator in Glenda humbly and artistically gives voice to social justice with both compassion and humour. She is whimsical in nature and has discovered that the transparency that painting on old windows offers provides her with an opportunity to repurpose and give back to the environment. Glenda struggles with on which side of the window to paint, as looking inward challenges her to view her own truth and looking outward is a search for truth beyond herself. When she paints on both sides it bridges the gap. Recently Glenda began collecting and painting on driftwood. She discovered that the best time to collect driftwood is after a storm. Her unique interpretation of combining wood and rocks and sometimes windows has led to a satellite component called “Sticks and Stones“. THEN... she began painting on old furniture and suitcases. Who knows where else her paint brush with land? Glenda enjoys the challenge of commissions and creating something unique for you.

Pop and Emm

This is me, Nori (and my sweet girl Poppy, “Pop”), the face behind Pop and Emm. It has been so very nice to meet many of you through Instagram, and my Etsy shop (, and others in person at the Pop and Emm shop in Winnipeg. After retiring from my 36 year career in public education, having the privilege of teaching most elementary grades and spending 15 years as a vice principal/principal, I was drawn to pursuing one of my other passions, all things vintage. Pop and Emm was created as a means to share my collections, and to do my part in supporting our earth by recycling and reusing vintage pieces, and thus discouraging the production of more throw away items. Also, I love the quality and uniqueness of vintage products, especially clothing produced in Hong Kong almost 40 years ago, and pieces that I have found and sourced from Europe. Thank you for your ongoing support! I appreciate it immensely.

Hi there. My name is Jeannie. My business name, JeanBean originated from the nickname I had as a child given by my three sisters. I am an Early Childhood Educator and I have been a doll maker since January 2017. I feel I'm meant to work with children in one capacity or another. Both being very important to me. During a difficult time in my life I came across a doll pattern and tried it. Shortly after friends started asking me to make them as gifts and I suppose the rest is history. It's been an exciting journey as my dolls have evolved. I currently add a felt heart on each doll's chest as a reminder that a piece of my heart goes into each doll I create. Additionally, the size has changed slightly to be smaller for the ease of carrying and I also create animals now. In addition, I add a name which is so fun to pick to suit the personality of each doll. The name is stamped on a tag and sewn on the back including the day it was created as birth date for the dollie. I hope that each doll purchased puts a smile on a child's (or adult's) face and is loved and cherished for many years.

Daisy 13

Rustic home decor with a bohemian vibe. While building our house, we wondered what happens to all of the off-cuts when a house is built, and this was the beginning of Daisy Thirteen. Over the years, we’ve sent close to 20,000 blocks out into the world with the intention of bringing smiles to your faces, and each one has been lovingly created from salvaged wood. We’ve partnered with local construction companies to collect their off-cuts so that they don’t end up in the landfill. It takes us more time, but it’s worth it, and we are so thankful for your support.

Sly Scarves

All Sly Scarf & Apparel items are proudly handmade in Winnipeg, Manitoba by a family of female creators. Everything is designed, cut & sewn by us.  We do not use any outside production assistance. Our designs are produced in small quantities to ensure that they are (almost) one of a kind pieces.
